Howdy RPC YAs!

This past Sunday we were blessed by a visit from Cindy and Kevin Gourlay. Kevin is a YA who grew up at RPC, and felt led into a life of ministry to bring the Word of God to people thru acting.

Kevin did this thru joining Covenant Players. Covenant Players pioneered the use of drama as a communications resource in the church. Units of Covenant Players travel throughout the world communicating the reality of the Gospel to communities in churches, schools, and street corners.

For years, Kevin served throughout Latin America, Learning the culture and language, and relying on God's blessings as he traveled with his troupe from one place to another. It was in Latin America that Kevin met Cindy, while working together. After several years serving in Latin America, the two are now serving in Germany, Cindy's home country.

Cindy is now Unit Leader of the RHEIN UNIT of Covenant Players. Cindy leads the unit with Kevin.

What's Coming Up

Come out for the last re:Fresh of the season. Worship and time to hang out after. Starting at 7:30pm on Wednesday.

This Saturday is "First Saturday" for the RPC YA Group 7pm Saturday June 5th.

We will be having First Saturday at the Annex - in the Parlour. A simple meal, then delve into God's Word. Our Discussion will be on Matthew 6:1-34

Sunday June 6th at 7pm is a Multi-Congregation/Denomination concert benefiting the community 4th of July Parade. Freewill donation, refreshments, and silent auction all at Roxborough Presbyterian. Come out and support this great community gathering!

The 4th of July Parade will actually be on Monday, July 5th this year. Come out for the parade, and then the Picnic and Patriotic service afterward at RPC.

Where Does the Time Go?

Last Post into the RPC YA Blog was in April, and here it is, already Mid-May. Where Does the Time Go?

I know I've been busy, with family, with work, and some of the ministries at RPC. But some days, I just wonder if I've accomplished what God wanted in the time I allotted.

Am I being a good steward of my time? Or should our lives be more event oriented than time oriented?

Jesus lived in a culture in which people did not wear watches on their wrists and did not hang clocks on every wall. Sometimes he responded immediately and went to people, and at other times he delayed his response or withdrew to be alone. His ministry was event oriented, not time oriented. We don't hear about Jesus having a 10:30 am service once a week, or making sure he taught a weekly Torah study. Instead, his life WAS his ministry. Ever moment could possibly be a teaching moment. Every day, to be shared with God our Father.

But even Jesus at times needed time alone, to rejuvenate and be with His Father. You may want to "escape to a mountain" as Jesus did. At times he got away from people, and he encouraged his disciples to do the same thing. Some people may believe that a Christian should not refuse to spend time with people who want them to stay, but looking to the Bible, that was not the case with the apostle Paul. At the end of his second term he briefly visited Ephesus, leaving two other missionaries to continue the work. When the people of Ephesus asked him to spend more time with them, he declined, saying that he would come back if it was God's will (Acts 18: 20-21). Not only did Paul leave when asked to stay longer, but also at times he purposely avoided seeing people when he was in a hurry. At the end of his third term and in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, Paul decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time there. Instead he stopped south of Ephesus and asked the elders of the church to come down to meet him briefly (Acts 20:16-38). We can't answer every call, but we can pray for God's guidance on those we are best suited to answer, or that need our talents the most.

In our North American, Big City Culture, time seems to control all our responsibilities - tied to that minute hand of the clock on the wall.. But we must remind ourselves who really controls what's going on. So take the time to slow down, be with your God, and be with family. God desire is to be with us, and we must take time to abide by Him.

Spring Fair - Saturday, May 22nd - Flea market, fun for the kids, food and music, all to benefit the 2010 Mission Trip.

Community Garden - There may still be a plot or two left in the Community Garden. Check with Elizabeth if you want one, or just want to help out!

Have You Seen? Next time you're at Roxborough Presbyterian, Look UP! The steeple has a fresh look to it. A nice fresh coat of paint. And in the next few weeks there'll be some roofing and other painting going on as well. Keep an eye open.

If you see Greg G and Kelly G out and about (or at re:Fresh 7pm Wednesday Nites) Give 'em a big Congrats, they got engaged last weekend.

Our next Outing can be in a new van! RPC Session approved the purchase of a 12 passenger Ford Van. Ducted rear air and heat, double swinging entry doors, and even an input jack for an MP3 player.

Speaking of Outing, what's next for the RPC YA Group? Trip downtown, out bowling, or to Morris Arboretum to enjoy a spring picnic? Give us some Ideas.

In two Saturdays, it's First Saturday Again! Come out and be Fed In Body and Spirit! Hope to See YA Out.

Needin' a Weedin' This Saturday - and other Stuff

This Saturday, come out to the garden for some fun in the sun! Help out, Have Fun, And support the Community Garden This Saturday, from 9:30am to 2:30pm. There will be teams working on new plots, rain-barrel, and mulching projects, plus fun, food, kids activities, and music from local bands.

Maimonides Ladder of Charity

Maimonides was known as a great twelfth-century philosopher and an expert in Jewish law. He organized the tradition's many insights and directives into a graded hierarchy of tzedakah (Charity) - 8 steps - from the most sublime to the barely acceptable, taking into account the effects on recipient and donor alike.

From Maimonides writings, in the 12th century:

There are eight degrees or steps in the duty of charity.

The first and lowest degree is to give, but with reluctance or regret. This is the gift of the hand, but not of the heart.
The second is, to give cheerfully, but not proportionately to the distress of the sufferer.
The third is, to give cheerfully and proportionately, but not until solicited.
The fourth is, to give cheerfully, proportionately, and even unsolicited; but to put it in the poor man's hand, thereby exciting in him the painful emotion of shame.
The fifth is, to give charity in such a way that the distressed may receive the bounty, and know their benefactor, without their being known to him. Such was the conduct of some of our ancestors, who used to tie up money in the corners of their cloaks, so that the poor might take it unperceived.
The sixth, which rises still higher is to know the objects of our bounty, but remain unknown to them. Such was the conduct of those of our ancestors, who used to convey their charitable gifts into poor people's dwellings; taking care that their own persons and names should remain unknown.
The seventh is still more meritorious, namely to bestow charity in such a way that the benefactor many not know the relieved persons, nor they the name of their benefactors, as was done by our charitable forefathers during the existence of the Temple. For there was in that holy building a place called the Chamber of the Silent, wherein the good deposited secretly whatever their generous hearts suggested, and from which the poor were maintained with equal secrecy.
Lastly, the eighth, and the most meritorious of all, is to anticipate charity, by preventing poverty; namely, to assist the reduced fellowman, either by a considerable gift, or a loan of money, or by teaching him a trade, or by putting him in the way of business, so that he may earn an honest livelihood; and not be forced to the dreadful alternative of holding out his hand for charity. To this Scripture alludes when it says: and if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee, then thou shalt relieve him; yea, though he be a stranger or a sojourner; that he may live with thee. This is the highest step and the summit of charity's golden ladder.

Charity is not just about money, or donating goods. When we "do" Charity, we make changes not to just our community neighbors, but to our own hearts and minds as well. As a young adult, it might be time to self-assess where your heart is, and in what manner you wish to be involved in what Jesus has commanded us all to do.

Remember Nicodemus?

Remember Nicodemus?

During the burial of Jesus, something unusual happened — an underrated gesture from an "outsider" named Nicodemus. You will remember Nicodemus if you re-read the scene in John 3 in which he asked, "How can anyone get back in his mother's womb?" in response to Jesus' talk about being born again.

Nicodemus' question drew a reply from Jesus that's become perhaps the most evangelistically successful verse of all time — John 3:16. So what happened to the guy who heard those words from Jesus Himself? At first glance, not much!

In his Gospel, John concluded this scene with a nonchalant "After this," giving no indication of heart change in Nicodemus. In John 7, Nicodemus showed up again, defending Jesus before some noisy Pharisees hell-bent on arresting Jesus — still, no concrete evidence of conversion.

In John 19 we find Nicodemus' third and final appearance, at Jesus' burial. Read this scene; and, if you have a pen & paper handy, mark down on paper every mention of Nicodemus. Underline any details you learn about him.

Did you catch the amount of spices Nicodemus brought to the burial? Seventy-five pounds! Normal Jewish burials called for five pounds of spices — an amount typically on hand in a Jewish household. Seventy-five pounds was an extraordinary amount — the quantity used to bury royalty.

Sound like Nicodemus got it - Jesus as his King - if a bit late.

Nicodemus showed up in broad daylight, declaring allegiance — in stark contrast with his first encounter with Jesus. What's more, you can't hide 75 pounds of myrrh and aloes. Picture 15 five-pound bags of sugar, or the biggest dog-food bag at Pet Smart! Imagine a quantity that "makes a statement" — and that's what Nicodemus brought.

It was a bold move, but it came late. By waiting until Jesus' death to experience his King, Nicodemus missed a once-in-creation opportunity. Never again would Jesus walk the Earth exactly as He had then. Nicodemus could have witnessed the miracles. He could have laughed with Jesus. Cried with Jesus.

In Jesus' day, many believing Jews dialed down their commitment to Him for fear of the authorities. Perhaps that's what kept Nicodemus from all-out discipleship. What fears keep us dialed down in our relationships with Jesus?

To experience His mercy requires that we honestly admit the failures that His mercy can cover. Could fear of admitting we've blown it keep us from basking in all the mercy we can get? Temptation can be boiled down to a fear of missing out. Might this fear throw to the curb our ability to receive Jesus' strength to overcome temptation?

Or maybe we've thought our current spiritual plateau is as good as it gets. Does fear of asking a new set of questions keep us from experiencing a level of spiritual existence that's better than we could ask for or imagine?

Who knows what fears Nicodemus overcame to take that bold step alongside Joseph of Arimathea, another stealth disciple. What fears can you boldly step through in order to know Jesus now? Take a moment and think about your fears and weaknesses, and then look at each, asking something like, "How can I fully experience Jesus through this fear?" or "What once-in-creation characteristic of Jesus will help me in this weakness?"

icodemus wore the moniker "the man who visited Jesus at night" throughout John's Gospel. Now we can see him as the man who publicly crowned Jesus in the light of day. It took the duration of Jesus' ministry for him to make that change. We can start now.

If you need a tangible step, buy a five-pound bag of sugar and have yourself a coronation. When a someone asks why there's a bag of sugar in your office or car, explain away — holding nothing back. You're living a once-in creation opportunity.

Hope you were able to enjoy the wonderful warmth of our first day of spring. It truly felt like a blessing after our blizzard of a winter! Amy, the girls and I (and Molly the pup) enjoyed the day together at a Doggy Easter Egg Hunt to benefit an animal shelter network.

Tonight Jeff Mitchell will be leading the re:Fresh Band for our time of Praise and Worship. Our Speaker will be Rev. Bronc Radak. Come out for a time to be refreshed by praising the glory of the Lord.

The Easter Cantata "Love Grew Where the Blood Fell" will be Sunday March 28th during the 10:30am Service.

First off, re:Fresh THIS Wednesday Nite Service (Starts at 7:30pm) music will be lead by the intrepid Jeff Mitchell - one of the originating members of RPC re:Fresh

Easter week is coming up fast.

The Easter Cantata "Love Grew Where the Blood Fell" will be Sunday March 28th during the 10:30am Service.

Maundy Thursday will be April 1st at 7:30pm Though this is usually a solemn service, this year we will be uplifted by the 180 Dance Company, performing Risen You can become a Facebook Fan of the 180 Dance Company here

Another Day, Another Snow Storm

We'll maybe you're not - yet - but it does seem like it's preempted a few of the happenings for Roxborough Presbyterian this winter.

The latest activity to fall victim to the white stuff is re:Fresh this Wednesday Night.

re:Fresh is Canceled for Tomorrow Evening due to - Snow.

We hope your able to stay inside out of the cold wet stuff, if not we hope you can stay bundled up and safe.

If you've done your shoveling or fun in the snow tomorrow, grab a warm cup of beverage, and look over the Matthew Bible Study - that was also preempted by falling flurries - From this past First Saturday. All the materials you'd need are available here.

So stay safe, enjoy the day off if you can, and take some time to check in with your friends, family and neighbors.

First Saturday's Bible Study - Today

As the Mayor has asked us to stay off the streets, we will NOT be meeting at the Parlor today for First Saturday because of the SnowStorm.

However, Amy has diligently formatted the planned Bible Study and we have placed the information for you on the RPC YA site to read, or as a printable download. There is an interactive map linked to work with as well.

We plan to do the study ourselves - this evening - at 7pm on-line. We hope you feel led do the same. Email any questions between 7pm and 8pm, we'll see if we can get back to you. So stay out of the cold, get comfy at home, and read & learn about Jesus' Lineage.

The Family Tree of Jesus - Matthew 1:1-17

The purpose of the Gospels is to give us a clear picture of Jesus so we can get to know him better. They tell us who he is, what he came to do, and what he wants us to do. Mathew's unique snapshot gives us a picture of Jesus the King . By the time you reach the end of the Gospel of Matthew, your knowledge of Jesus should be deeper, your picture of him should be clearer, and your understanding of what he wants you to be and do should be more mature. In the end, if you are willing, you will know him better too.

If you are taking a walk to the store - just because you can - check in with your neighbors who are not as able if you can pick-up something for them. And if you go out to shovel or clean off you car, try to help others as well.

Hope in Sixty Seconds...

Today seconds after dropping the eldest and friends off to school (I'm the morning car-pool dad) I was given a choice and a chance.

A choice to get involved, and a chance to make a difference.

Getting through North Philly at 7:30am, especially the intersection of Olney and Ogontz, can be a challenge. As I tetris'd my way from the student drop zone to the turn lane to head towards work, a slow moving car turned into the intersection. It was slow moving because the driver, not dressed for winter weather, was pushing the apparently stalled vehicle by running alongside, hanging onto the wheel with the door open. And my immediate thoughts? "Why is he turning HERE? There's nowhere to stop that thing here. Gah! there's no emergency lane. Now he's gonna have to push that thing uphill to get out of the way. How can I get around THIS?." Yep, I was thinking some pretty un-gracious thoughts at that point. Thoughts of helping were tweaking the back my mind, but how was still banging around in there. One thing changed that.

The driver two cars ahead, waiting for his turn at the turn lane (and at this point blocked by the disabled car) got out, walked to the back of the car, and pushed. No yelling, no mean gestures, no look of contempt. Just Action. As the two struggled - I got the clear communication of what to do.

Get out and push.

So I took position next to the well dressed Samaritan and followed his lead. He grunted thanks (as only we guys can) as we pushed the car a half block up, into a parking spot. The driver yelled thanks as we both turned, and walk-trotted back to our cars. As I put my car into drive and queued up again to turn, I realized that the whole episode had taken only about sixty seconds. It renewed my hope in this world just a bit.

The guy who broke down didn't ask for help. But it was pretty evident he needed it. It was pretty evident that the Samaritan and I were not from the neighborhood, and were just passing through on our way - probably to work. We never met before, and will probably not meet again.

But we all changed each other - even for a bit.

All in Sixty Seconds.

Now some may argue we didn't change anything. The Samaritan & I were presented with a "problem" and rectified it for our own gain. Others may say I didn't do enough, and should have checked what else I could have done for the driver, or better yet - check if he knew Christ as his savior.

I think I did exactly what was intended. For I believe, being involved those sixty seconds weren't intended to change the driver, the Samaritan, or any observers. It was meant to change me.

1 John 3:18 Explains that by doing what we talk about, by being involved, by "practicing real love" we begin to live truly in the reality of God. And what better way to combat self doubts of your own integrity?

I was a stepping stone for an unknown man for sixty seconds. Just think what could be accomplished if each of us took a minute of time to give hope to another. Better yet, instead of sixty seconds, what about sixty minutes? A day? A Week?

Whatever you can share, what you may discover in the end, is the hope you have given - is to yourself.

Howdy RPC YAs!

There is nothing as Constant as Change, so says the Greek Philosopher Heraclitus. Or if you love 70's-80's glam rockers, Davie Bowie's Changes re-inerates the fact by saying we need to accept change as an inevitable part of life.

So What's Changing?

After listening to your needs and input, we're going to change the way the discussion groups meet. The RPC YA Group is going to start First Saturdays, where every month the first Saturday we will meet in the Annex Building (Where the RPC office is located) Have a simple meal, and do a study - more centered around Biblical teaching, that relate to your life. After the study, you can hang out for a movie or card and board games, or head out on your own adventure. We'll still have separated childcare for those with little ones during the study portion of the evening. We're hoping to get a solid group that really wants to learn, think about, and commit on how their faith works, and affects their everyday life.

Our first "First Saturday" will be February 6th around 7pm

Also, we'd like to organize some RoadTrips that are "Young Adults Only". We would still be providing babysitting, but it would not be at the venue our RoadTrip is going to. Other Facilitators may lead these outings as well. Any ideas for RoadTrips, let us know.

Venue is Kirkwood Camp in the Poconos, and we would be doing some outdoor activities - including Maple Sugaring. Cost would be $79 for the weekend, including meals and lodging. Please let us know your interest.

Today, January 6th Marks Epiphany, the coming of the Magi.

Why is this important?

The Epiphany celebrates God's revealing or manifesting of Jesus' identity as true God, Messiah, and Savior of the world. It not only commemorates the fact that Jesus appeared to save us, but that God revealed the identity of Jesus to the world. The Magi - or Wise Men - Came to present gifts to the new King. They represented not Jerusalem, not the Jews, but the whole World. It shows that Jesus is Lord for all. And then the Magi did what we all should be doing. They didn't just hang out with Christ and stop their journey there. They continued - back to their homelands, and along the way - let everyone know of Christ the King. This Saturday, we'll be leaving Roxborough Presbyterian at 11am in RoadAbode - heading to Philadelphia Premium Outlets in the Limerick Area. You can ride up with us (let us know, seating is limited) follow us up, or meet us there. Once there, we''ll have some soup on, and something warm to drink as well. We'll have childcare, so go do some shopping, or for the shopping weary, take a nap, watch a movie, or cruise the web in RoadAbode. Return time currently is open.

Jesus' Teaching Style

Howdy RPC YAs

Every think WHY so many people listened to Jesus back in the day? There were plenty of teachers in Jerusalem alone. Why did people pick Jesus, basically a homeless guy, over them? I started wondering about that, and came up with a few clues.

Jesus made what he said relevant to the daily lives of those who listened. Whatever was affecting their life at that moment, he cured the issue, then used that to teach. Cured their ills. Fed the hungry. Let them see that sins were forgiven. No matter their stature in life, they were welcomed to where he was.

Jesus freed people with His Words. Jesus' teaching was not just "status quo". He taught what the people needed even if it challenged popular teaching. However, He wasn't belligerent. Jesus accepted those that came to Him, and invited them into His fold. He met them where they were, and brought them alongside Him, A beggar, wealthy man, fishermen, or tax collector, made no difference.

Jesus didn't care if the whole crowd "got it" He left the door open for personal interpretation. His teachings are still relevant today because of this. He reaches you where were last week, are today, and next week too.

Jesus had the Power of the Holy Spirit. Those miracles He performed opened eyes, which caused open ears, and finally, opened hearts. If you've ever left a service feeling uplifted, totally touched by a missional outreach, or just left pondering one point from a sermon, that's the Holy Spirit working in you, too. Jesus as man, acted upon that.

Jesus teaching was brief. One thought. One action. One phrase. He let you dwell on and in those words or deed. Something short for people to think about. To remember. And to share with others. Jesus expected others to share what they experienced

Jesus taught in the moment. He used what was right there - right now - to teach those that listened. He didn't have a teaching "schedule". He taught when it was needed, and where. A Fig Tree. A Garden. Along the Road. In a Home. On the Street. Where the people were, that became the classroom or pulpit. A bird, a tree, a rock, the dirt - that was His PowerPoint.

His teaching "style" made it easy for people to share the stories, and the moments he had taught to them. If you've accepted Jesus as both Man and God, the One you wish to follow, How do you answer these questions...

What are you doing to help those that listen to you, to follow along the same path?
What talents have you been given that you can develop for your "teaching style"?
Do you share, and make it easy for people to share, your stories and moments of faithfulness?

RPC YAs - Happy November!

Happy November RPC YAs!

We had a wet but productive day for the HarvestFest. Seven fruit trees, and a row of blueberry were planted with the help of Phil and Annie from the Philadelphia Orchard Project. Also, RPC YA Diane came in first with her baked goodness of mint, and peanutbutter and I'm not sure what else - the recipe will be in the December Lamplighter I believe - but it was yummy!. Her winnings included a MP3 player, cookbook, and inscribed medal. You can see pictures of the goings-on here Just click the link "The Orchard is In!" Because of the weather and turn out, we were unable to do the Rock-Paper-Scissors Tourney, so we'll let you know when that is rescheduled.

Outreach

As Christians, we are called to feed others, not just spiritually, but to meet physical needs as well. We'd like to sponsor a local family for the holidays, but before committing to any organization, want to be sure that the RPC YA Group would be involved. If this would be an outreach you would feel led to assist in, let us know. Roxborough Presbyterian Church in the past has "adopted" a family for the holidays. We could be part of that, or have an outreach to a family that is the RPC YA Group's alone. In the very least we can be part of a can drive to help our local community. We need to know, however, your level of commitment.

What's coming up for RPC YAs?? Quite a bit!

Sunday, November 15th at 6:30pm is the Northwestern Christian Alliance Praise and Prayer - hosted by RPC. We'd like to make that a can drive as well. For more information, check with Bob DiCicco.

Saturday, November 21st wil be a RoadTrip to Philadelphia Premium Outlets. Should we use RoadAbode as a home base for that, maybe cook up some soup to keep warm? Let us know!

Tuesday, December 1st at 6pm Do a Night hike in the Wissahickon until 7:30pm. Come earlier for a hot dog fireside or bring your own vittles. Let us know if you plan on attending so we can let the ranger know a headcount.

Sunday, December 13th at 6pm Christmas Music Extravaganza at Simpson House. RPC will be conducting a mission outreach to the senior community at Simpson House, a United Methodist Retirement Community, located on Belmont Avenue. This will be a great time of holiday fellowship and bringing cheer to senior citizens. If you wish to join us for that evening please contact Scott Granato.

Saturday, December 19th at 6pm Live Nativity at Merrymead Farm. Narration and song will help tell the Christmas Story of Christ's Birth. This is outside, so dress warm!

Top Prizes for both the Baking Contest and the R-P-S Tourney include MP3 Players, Safety lights, books, and inscribed medals. Come out and enjoy some friendly competition. A Call for Help

Howdy RPC YAs.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in making sure to plan events that are fun or enlightening for everyone to come out to, we forget about the real needs in our own backyard. Fortunately, then God usually sends a wake-up call.

Today's wake-up call came in the form of an email from Megan Terry of North Light Community Center. Megan sent the email below to people she knows are involved in ministries in the Roxborough Area.

What I'm asking is pretty simple. When you go grocery shopping, when you pickup that can of green beans, or can of whatever, pickup an extra or two. Drop it off either at Roxy Pres, or if your in the neighborhood, right at North Light. Let's do this as often as possible, and let's see it make a difference in our own neighborhood. By helping others, we can honor our heavenly Father. Don't worry, there are no downsides to doing this. Reaching out and help your neighbor is what we are told to do.

Here's part of Megan's email to the Christian Community of Northwest Philly:

Friday I received a call from a gentleman North Light has assisted once before through the FISH food cupboard. He and his wife have fallen on hard times, as many have. They have disabled twin infants and an older toddler. They were in need of a specific formula for the twins (doctor's orders) and diapers for all three. They have applied for state social services and WIC, all of which does not go into effect for a few weeks. He had gone to two churches this morning (in this neighborhood) and been told by both that neither did this.

Now the big question: What would Jesus do???

I understand that everywhere and everyone are struggling. That building costs have increased and we are struggling to support a family at the church…But what about people like the family above? We all (myself included) need to consider what Jesus said in Matthew 25 and act on it. Not just on Sunday, not just in that spare change for a mission overseas, but to see a neighbor has been ill and take over soup, or to set up an emergency fund in our office so that we may run to the market and pick up diapers for a struggling family.

North Light is once again running our Thanksgiving meals and Holiday adopt a family (or more) programs. We also have our year round Friends In Supplying Help (FISH) food cupboard. We could use your help, with these programs. Just 2 weeks ago our food cupboard was down to 19 cans of tomato paste and 6 cans of broth. There was nothing! I went home, I prayed, I brought in what I could from my house, and then a local church held a food drive. The food that filled our kitchen last week is all but gone now. We need a steady supply of shelf stable food and we need money to purchase gift cards for the purchase of items we do not stock like specific formula, diapers (specific sizes and brands makes it very hard to keep a supply) and bread, milk, etc.

From the input we have so far, we're planning a shopping excursion to Philadelphia Premium Outlets on a Saturday in November (TBD - but looking like 11/21/09), and a Ranger Night Walk on Tuesday Dec 1st. There will be LOTS to do in December with your RPC Family - all will be posted on the RPC calendar and here as events are finalized, and details ironed out.

Saturday, October 31st 9am - 3pm - Community Garden HarvestFest! We'll be tending to the Community Garden, then at 10am, we'll be working with the Philadelphia Orchard Project, planting our own small orchard addition to the Garden! Afterward, celebrate with food, music and family-style fun. There will be a Baking Contest and R-P-S Tourney! Email if you need more info.

With the help of Philadelphia Orchard Project, we'll be putting in a small organic orchard, located behind the current boundary of the garden. We'll also be expanding the garden forward toward Ridge Avenue, to accommodate more plots.

So come and either get your hands dirty, watch the progress, or join in some Harvest Food & Fun!

Lend a hand in planting a new orchard at the Roxborough Presbyterian Community Garden.

Part of the Church's HarvestFest event (8am-3pm), with garden tours, a cookout, baking contest, games, music, and more!

Howdy RPC YAs!

How has your summer gone? (Too quickly we're sure!)

Well, autumn is right around the corner. For some it's back to classes, for others back to the regular routine of work (wishing they were back in classes)

Summer can be a time to renew, recharge; accomplish something, or get something out of the way. Maybe you tried something new, or got to visit somewhere that took you back down memory lane. Whatever YOU did, let's hear about it. And we've got the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Serving in Our Community

As Christians, we should be looking for opportunities to serve our fellow man, and community. Through these we serve our God.

We all have talents we've been given, and we should share and use them.

It would be great to do something as the RPC YA Group, but until that happens, I know of a few opportunities we can do individually.

There are always ways to server at RPC, to make it a more inviting place to worship. Check with me to direct you to the right person to get you involved.

If you have a green thumb, the RPC Garden could use help with tenders. Check in with Elizabeth at gardener@rpcnet.org

North Light Community Center supports positive youth development, strengthen families and build community. To serve as a volunteer there, check in here (Megan works here)

If you are patient enough to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) my brother has opportunities to do that as a volunteer teacher.

Also, server others by praying for them!

Keep the Mission Trip Team in your prayers for the coming week. They will be travelling Saturday to Fairmont W. VA During the week they will be helping rehab a home there. Pray for safe travels, safe work conditions, wisdom, and patience.

What Happened to June?

So, what happened to June?

Before we knew it, Our yearly family RoadTrip was upon us, and the RPC YAs had not met for a discussion group or trip. We did have a few opportunities, to see each other, like getting together for Rock the Garden, and the last of re:Fresh Services until September.

Is July too busy to get together for a night of day?? Let us know.

Don't forget - July 4th, enjoy the annual Roxborough Fourth of July Parade, and after the Picnic and fun at RPC. If you want to join with RPC in the Parade, get to Manayunk Ave and Connaroe St. by 9am on Saturday to get your "marching" orders. =p We're Church number twelve this year.

Rock the Garden! Community Garden Build Sat. 6/06/09

Howdy RPC YAs!

This weekend, Saturday June 6th, join with the community to help complete the "hardscaping" for the Roxborough Presbyterian Community Garden! This outreach, both to the community and those in need, really could use your help. Come out for an a few hours, or the whole day! There will be music, and times to finish the plots for the physically challenged, complete rain barrels, raise a shed - build a delimiting fence, and more. There will be food, and fun things to do for all ages. (Elizabeth has some great activities planned for the kids as well!)

Come out and be a part of the adventure! Starting around 9am - into the afternoon!

Really well done. Simplified understanding the supply line of how we get our "STUFF", and how it can hurt our planet, and the peoples around the globe. It's very heavy handed - and it's meant to be. I don't agree with it all, but it if you watch all 20 or so minutes - you should be ready at least to think about the issues mentioned, and maybe investigate them more. Looks like the majority of people can make the Guy's/Girl's out on Saturday May the 23rd.

We've got a "Guy's RoadTrip" in the works - a trip to get some "Po-Boys", or some "Dirty Rice" or maybe even some Catfish Fingers". Yup, we're lookin' to do some eatin' at Cajun Kate's at the Booth's Corner Farmers Market down in Boothwyn PA. Then after - out to the movies - Maybe "Star Trek"?

The Girls would head to the Karl Abode - for a movie night and Chinese take-out! (Did someone say"chick-flick" nite?) Send movie recommendations!

Kimberly will be there to keep any young ones occupied.

If you enjoy the outdoors, and want to be more environmentally aware, or think the community should be too - Check in with RPC YA Elizabeth V . and the community outreach she's heading up - RPCG - Roxborough Presbyterian Community Garden. Elizabeth has been working hard planning, laying out and gathering support and sponsors for the Garden. The Garden is located at the corner of the church property at Port Royal and Ridge Avenues. Last night together we built a small bridge over the swale that runs along the driveway to the Annex and storage shed. This Saturday April 25th, she'll be working with volunteers to install the first example plot. Upcoming activities include building rain barrels to conserve water, compost bins to recycle and reuse, and a "Rock-the-Garden" event to sign-up and build; plus plan and plant together. Help RPC help our surrounding community. For more info on upcoming opportunities to be involved, or if you would like to reserve a plot, please contact Elizabeth or myself .

God Makes Surprise Visit To Local Church

FAYETTEVILLE, NC—Parishioners at the First Presbyterian Church were left stunned and in awe of His glory Sunday, when the Lord God Almighty dropped by their 11 a.m. service unannounced.

Our Father, the Almighty God, popped His all-powerful head into First Presbyterian Church Sunday.

Interrupting Pastor Terry Pridgen's sermon on His unending mercy, God appeared suddenly before His flock as an intense beam of white light, instantly dispersing the earthly forms of those seated in the first two pews. Sources said the remaining congregants had to avert their eyes from their Creator, whose booming celestial voice overwhelmed their worldly senses and humbled their hearts as He politely apologized for not calling first.

"I AM the God of Abraham, the LORD MOST HIGH, who brought you forth from the bondage of Egypt," God said unto church members, many of whom cowered in reverent fear of Him. "Thought I'd just pop in and see how things were going. Please, pretend like I'm not even here."

The Supreme Being then thanked the choir for its "lovely introduction" and took a seat to the right of the altar.

According to wholly repentant witnesses, who were scarcely able to look upon the Alpha and Omega, much less conceive of the enormity of His Might, God did not speak again for the entirety of the service, but was seen nodding approvingly during the Nicene Creed.

Attendees reportedly did not ask the One Who Made Them Flesh why He had chosen to visit their small parish, though some suspected the church's new electric organ might have had something to do with it.

"I don't think anyone knew He was coming," said churchgoer Ron Stiehl, adding that, for once, he was happy his wife dragged him to church. "At least it seemed that way when He started walking toward us and everyone was yelling their heads off like it was Judgment Day."

"Turns out the King of Kings was just making the rounds," Stiehl continued. "I thought He'd be taller."

While God did not reveal unto man a reason for His visit—nor did He, in His great wisdom, offer to pay for the six stained-glass windows that shattered from the awesome power of His presence—the Almighty sat among His followers for the last 35 minutes of the Sunday service, as well as the free coffee and pastries that followed.

Sources said that Our Father sat alone eating two cinnamon-sugar doughnuts, and was approached only once, when 5-year-old Jeremy Pacheco tried to hug the omnipotent deity. The boy's parents immediately yanked him away.

The other 112 church members avoided God entirely, and reacted to His continued stay with a mix of astonishment, confusion, fearful reverence, and the sublime inner peace that comes with the knowledge of a power greater than oneself.

"I wanted to ask the Lord what heaven is like, and if my mother is there, but I wasn't sure if it's still considered taking His name in vain when you address Him directly," Wendy Alston said. "And I didn't dare draw attention to myself with two teenagers wearing blue jeans to church. I could barely look at Him, I was so ashamed."

"Oh dear God," said 72-year-old church volunteer Michael Sharpe, completely enraptured by the materialization of the One True Creator before his very eyes. "Oh, dear God in heaven."

Since the Almighty's decision to stop by the First Presbyterian Church, the theological world has been thrown into chaos. Presbyterian leaders said God's appearance was indisputable proof that their denomination is the one true faith, but afternoon sightings of the Lord at two other Fayetteville churches, as well as one synagogue, have cast doubt on that theory.

"God said He just wanted to see what we were up to," Pastor Pridgen said. "This is His house, after all. He can drop in whenever He wants."

"Although, you'd think an all-knowing deity unbound by time and space would be able to give us some warning so we could at least put a bulletin in the church newsletter," the pastor added. "Not that I'm complaining or anything. All praise be to God. Is He still hanging around the parking lot?"

It's the Small Stuff that Kills Us...

The greatest fear that miners experience is the fear of "pneumoultramicroscopicsiliconvolcaniconiosis". In Japanese it is simply "haijinbyo". It is more commonly called black lung. Miners inhale tiny carbon molecules and fine coal dust into their lungs and finally the stuff accumulates so much that it suffocates them.

Yep - The Small Stuff.

Most of us would agree that part of our biggest problems is the little things in life that get us down. Have you ever had "One Of Those Days"? Fifteen minor problems equal one bad attitude. They just all add up. It gets to you. The frustrations.

So I guess the real test of your Christianity is how you handle the little things in life. That's the bottom line. How you handle the little, insignificant irritations, interruptions and frustrations of life. In Philippians 2 it speaks to what makes Christians different from anybody else is attitude. Your attitude toward the little things in life. Philippians 2:14-15 "Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation in which you shine like stars in the universe."

So how do you handle frustration?

According to the Bible, you don't get mad and blow off. You don't hold it in and blame everybody else. You don't become an Eyore in a world of gloom. What can you do?

You bring it into focus.

You keep it in a right perspective.

You treat it for what it is, simply a minor irritation. It's no big deal.

It's not worth getting mad about. See it as it really is.

It's not the end of the world; it's simply a temporary setback.

So you reduce it down to size.

The only way you can treat all stuff as small stuff is to see it from God's perspective. If I look at it, it may seem like a major crisis, everything's falling apart. But when you see it from God's point of view, His perspective, then it comes into focus. Wisdom is seeing life from God's point of view.

Five practical steps on how to handle the frustrations of life.

Here are five simple steps on dealing with the little things in life:

1. Ask yourself, "Did I cause it?" When you've got an irritation, when you're facing a frustration, ask yourself, "Did I bring this on myself? Why am I frustrated? Did I cause it?" The Bible says in Galatians, "You will reap what you sow." Many times in life we are frustrated simply because we brought them on ourselves. We don't have anybody else to blame. We're reaping what we've sown. You have to be honest.

You are frustrated because you procrastinated! You knew 6 months ago that the term paper was due but you waited till the night before. You run out of gas. But who's to blame? You simply didn't prepare. You didn't stop to get gas. So you don't blame anybody else, you're reaping what you've sown.

2. Ask yourself, "What can I learn from it? How would Jesus respond to it?" Use the irritation as an opportunity to grow in character. Use the frustration as an opportunity to be more like Christ. Use it, don't just endure it. How does God produce the fruit of the Spirit in our lives? Usually He places us in the complete opposite situation. If God wants to teach you love, He will put you around unlovely people. It's easy to love people who are lovely. If God wants to teach you joy, He will allow you times of sorrow where you can learn inner joy. If God wants to teach you peace, He will allow you in a situation which is total chaos so you can have inner peace. If God wants to teach you patience, He knows you will learn it best in long slow-moving lines or in rush hour traffic. We learn the fruit of the Spirit by being placed in the opposite situation.

If we don't learn it in a little trial, God will give us another one. The next time, it will be bigger. Obviously, the little trial didn't work. So if I have a problem with anger, and God allows an irritation in my life to teach me how to overcome anger, but instead of learning from it, I blow up, instead of giving it to God, I blame God, instead of saying, "God, help!", I say, "God, why?" God says, "You didn't learn, so we'll just allow another situation in your life." So then He allows another irritation but this time the irritation is bigger because the little one didn't work. If you blow up there and don't learn the lesson, He'll allow it again; an even bigger one. Until finally you come to a nuclear bomb size irritation and you say, "God, Help!" and then He has your attention. Then you learn. Once you've learned that spiritual quality, He's going to start working on another quality.

3. Thank God in the situation. You say, "But you don't know my problems!" The two hardest verses in the Bible to obey are Philippians 4:6 "Worry about nothing" and 1 Thessalonians 5:18 "In everything give thanks." It does not say, "For everything give thanks." It says "In everything give thanks." You don't have to be thankful for a bad situation. But you can be thankful in a bad situation. If somebody gets into an accident, you don't say, "Thank You, God, for this accident!" or a loved one dies, "Thank You, God, that they died." But you can thank God in the situation. Because you know that He can take the negative and, if you give it to Him, somehow and someway, at some time, He can bring good out of it -- turn a crucifixion into a resurrection.

On top of that, you thank God in the situation because that frustration, that irritation, that inconvenience, that interruption, may be a blessing in disguise. Opportunities love to come to us disguised as irritations or inconveniences. They don't wear a sandwich sign that says, "I am a blessing. Notice me. I am a tremendous opportunity. Take advantage of me." In retrospect you say, "Now I see what God was trying to do!" or if you responded correctly you say, "Now I know why God allowed it."

In Japanese, the symbol for the word "crisis" (kiki), is made up of two words -- "danger" (kiken) and "opportunity" (kikai). You put them together and you get "crisis". In every crisis there is both danger and opportunity. In every frustration, there is irritation and opportunity.

4. Learn to laugh in adversity. The Bible says, "A cheerful heart is good medicine." The Bible says that we are to "Rejoice in the Lord always." Laughter is the shock absorber of life. It lightens the load, it makes life more manageable. A sense of humor is God's prescription for anger and frustration. You cannot laugh at a frustration and blow up at the same time. Learn to laugh at them.

If you want strength for the frustrations, the irritations, the interruptions, the inconveniences of life, learn to laugh again. Don't sweat the small stuff and realize it's all small stuff from God's viewpoint.

5. Ask God to fill you with His love. Why? Because 1 Corinthians 13 says "Love is never irritable." Love is never self serving. We get irritated, frustrated, mad, up-tight because we think everyone and everything has to revolve around us. When it doesn't, we get irritated. It's an ego problem. We think everyone else's schedule, everyone else's time, everyone else's energy revolve around our schedule. So when someone interrupts it, we're offended -- "How dare you interrupt my life!"

Love concentrates on the other person. A loving person would realize that the clerk has probably had a tough day. The reason we get uptight is we want to be the center and we think everything has to revolve around us.

When you are filled with love, absolutely nothing can irritate you. But when you're filled with anger, absolutely anything can irritate you. The difference is what's inside of you. That's what makes the difference, not the situation. The difference is how you choose to respond.

When the world puts the squeeze on you, what comes out of your life? When you get in a squeeze, when you get under pressure and everything is not going as planned, what comes out of your life? If you are filled with resentment, if you are filled with rebellion, if you are filled with an ego attitude, those things are going to come out. And you're going to blow up, resist, resent. But if you're filled with Christ's love, when the world puts pressure on you, His love is going to come out.

The Best is Yet to Come

Hope you all had a great Weekend!, know I did! It was filled with Egg hunts, Road Trips, and the Triumphant Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem - why we celebrate Palm Sunday.

We had a great time with those that were able to make it out to Zern's on Saturday. Congrats to the competitive winners of "RoadAbode Bingo" and Zern's Scavenger Hunt.

Pastor Bronc's Beard Reveals Image!

While stopping by the Church to handle signing some paperwork, I saw a congregation member intently staring at Pastor Bronc's picture in the Welcome Center. As I approached, they were so taken they did not even hear me. I stood behind, and cleared my throat. This person, a member of many years was finally startled out of her trance-like state."Oh hi there," she said, still in a partial daze, "sorry, didn't hear you come in." "No worries" I replied. "What you looking at there?" I asked. "Well, my eyes maybe failing me, but I think I see something in Pastor Bronc's beard - though I can't make it out." I started to look over her shoulder, as she said, "Well, I need to be going, enjoy your evening!" I too stared at Pastor Bronc's beard. And sure enough, saw something. I took a picture with my camera phone of the photograph, and emailed it to myself for further analysis. Below are my findings.

This Photo shows the original photograph. on Pastor Bronc's left cheek seems to be hairs groomed a certain way. Do you see?

Below I marked the area so it is able to be make out more easily. There did seem to be something there.

Using some of the software tools I have available I magnified and enlarged the area. Looks like a ...picture of some sort.....

I then un-pixileated and enhanced the lines and colors. What I found is pictured below.

A Picture of Jesus! Yup, Our Lord and Savior's image appears to be in Pastor Bronc's Beard! Next time you see him, go up, say hello, and stare intently to find the image. I'm sure Pastor Bronc won't mind.
Of course, to have Jesus in your life, just accept Him as your Lord and Savior. You can talk about that with Pastor Bronc too!
(Or me, if I'm around - though I don't have a cool, Jesus image beard!)

What's Coming Up for RPC YAs?

Howdy YAs!

Just wanted to mention about the RPC Timeline Potluck and a RPC YA RoadTrip coming up.

The RPC TimeLine Potluck, will be after Services on Sunday March 22nd . We'll be enjoying some homestyle delights, looking at church history and archives, and then sharing experiences we've had ourselves. Plan on coming out for this special afternoon in the life of Roxborough Presbyterian.

Spring is coming, and so it's time to plan a RPC YA Road Trip! On Saturday, April 4th, at 3:30pm, we'll leave from the church and travel to Zern's Farmer's Market in Gilbertsville PA.. Enjoy this unique piece of Americana, with a great mix of flea market, PA Dutch baked goods, farm fresh produce and more. We'll have RoadAbode there (If you want a ride up - let Amy or Mike know ASAP) so we'll have Roast Beef Sandwiches available, and if you have a little one, they can relax a bit and read, or watch a movie while you take some time to peruse the wares at Zern's. We'll also try to plan a challenge for YAs as well.

Enjoying the Snow?

Howdy YAs!

Hope you're all able to enjoy a snow day today. If not - praying you stay safe.

Just wanted to mention a thought - whatever you are doing today - let your "Christian" Show!

Maybe you can call and check in on an elderly neighbor - make sure they are OK...
If you're cleaning off your sidewalk, maybe you can do your neighbors, or of someone whose not as able....
Taking a walk to WaWa, 7-11, or CVS - just cause you can? Check with you neighbor who can't get out if they need milk or something....
Whatever your doing - take time to "do unto others"

Also - get by a window - watch the snow fall, and read Luke 6:27-45 "Dwell in the Word" for a moment. What words made you stop - or reflect - or say "wha"? Share - and let us know.....

So, YA Wanna Know What's Going On?

In case you did not hear, Roxborough Presbyterian is going green! Elizabeth V is heading up the Roxborough Presbyterian Community Garden Outreach. Elizabeth is a Landscape Architect, and has drawn plans to utilize the corner property of the church, at Ridge and Port Royal Avenues - There will be areas for vegetable gardens, cutting garden for shut-ins and church use, and plots laid out for the community to use. She's been gathering information from Philadelphia Green - which helps start community gardens, and has been working on getting funding to start off the garden. What she could really use, is your help, as we get ready to put her plans in motion. If you enjoy working with plants, or like getting dirty, This would be a great way to serve the community, the Lord, and get some fresh air to boot. Elizabeth will be announcing a planning meeting soon. If you want more info - let us know

RPC will be holding New Member Classes for anyone interested in learning more about what it means to be a member of Roxborough Presbyterian Church. The classes will be held Sunday mornings from 9:00- 10:00 (or there about) on March 8, 15, 22, 29. These classes will be open to EVERYONE who wants to know more about the church. Joining Roxborough Presbyterian at the end of the classes is NOT a requirement! So, feel free to come with your questions, your inquisitive minds, your argumentative spirits and whatever else you may want to bring. If you have any questions, please contact Rev. Bronc Radak.

Discussion Group next Friday March 6th at Aprille and Tim's abode. Our topic is "Being Christian in our Secular World" and... It's Pizza Night!

Everyone is also invited to take part in the Timeline Potluck, after services Sunday, March 22nd. Enjoy a great meal, and see the history of the church unfold on a huge timeline. Then have a chance to mark your memories on there too, and share them with others if you like. Some of the church archives will be available to see also.

As always, Wednesday Nights at 7:30pm are re:Fresh Nites. Come and be refreshed - mid-week. Pastor Bronc is leading us through the Book of Acts.

Don't know about you, but we've got a bit of "cabin fever" so we need to plan a RoadTrip soon!

Just a brief note as I run to get ready for the RPC Agape Dinner tonight -

Also, keep in prayer Kim B, she did a number on her ankle. We're praying it heals up for her quickly, and she doesn't get too frustrated by having to slow down a bit.

Special re:Fresh this Wednesday Nite!

Feb. 18th, This coming Wednesday, will be a special "Unplugged" session of re:fresh. Come and enjoy a closer, more intimate re:Fresh service, but Spirit-filled and worshipful just the same!. If you haven't made it out to re:Fresh service recently, we'd love to share this special time of worship and learning with you, and enjoy some refreshments after.

We enjoyed the fellowship and discussion with those who made it out this past Friday. If you see Pastor Bronc, make sure to thank him for leading our discussion.

Google Yourself Lately? A Note to RPC YAs

Yea, we know, it sounds like something you don't talk about in mixed company.

But seriously, do you know what comes up when you Google your name - or maybe even the email address you give out to Uncle John, Aunt Doris, or for that job interview?

It might not be even your post on Facebook or MySpace, but a friend that caught you in a potentially awkward situation.

The best cure is an ounce of prevention (or for you sport-loving guys, the best offense is a good defense)

Think before you post.

Once something gets up on the web, it can be tough to get it to go away. So always think twice before uploading that picture, or posting that comment, whether it's something about you, or a friend, think first. While the openness of the Internet is cool, it can be problematic when it erodes your privacy.

RECALL NOTICE: The Maker of all human beings (GOD) is recalling all units manufactured, regardless of make or year, due to a serious defect in the primary and central component of the heart.

Roxborough Presbyterian is planning an awesome afternoon for anyone whose presence has graced our property!

We'll be holding a Church Timeline "Potluck" Dinner.

RPC is going Back to the Future! (Somebody queue Huey Lewis!) =p

We'll be mapping out the history of the church - interactively! Everyone will be asked to add events that touched them, in different ways, to a huge timeline. Come for a delicious meal, meet old and new friends, check out some neat artifacts from long ago, and share in the past, present and future of RPC!

Howdy RPC YAs! A Poll

We've created a poll to get a consensus for what day would be best for our "Denominational Differences" Discussion Group in February. Please take a moment and go to the RPC YA Group Blog and you should find a poll on the left. Select the best day/time of day for you. We're hoping to have a guest speaker that day to give us a more in-depth view for this discussion.

Thanks to those that came and joined us for our January discussion on "What is, and How to Manage Stress" If anyone would like the handout from that evening, please let us know.

Also, even though the Eagles Loss to the Cardinals, we enjoyed a "win of a day" this past Sunday at the Art Museum! We started out with a meal together and just chatted after the Worship Service. (Glad that Bob, Michelle and Kevin Joined us for that portion!) With the light snow that fell, God provided a wonderful wintry landscape to enjoy viewing on our way, close (free) parking for our ride, and helped us find a few pieces of art to share some history with. The Art Museum is truly too large to enjoy all the galleries in the short time we visited, but we hope you enjoyed and learned a bit about what we were able to see. It was a great afternoon to be with you all.

If you want to learn a little more about the symbolism in Christian Art you can go online to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Search their Collections . Some also have audio files embedded that you can listen to. Those audio file Podcasts are also available through an ITunes link for free. The Next verified Date we have an outing planned is Sunday, February 8th after Services. Amy and I are planning to go to the Valley Forge RV show - and you're invited too! We'll have WaWa Hoagies before as with the Art Museum outing, so even if you just want to fellowship a bit with the YAs and enjoy a hoagie after services and NOT go to the RV show - that's fine too! If you need a ride to the RV show - drop us an email!

Don't forget - the Agape Feast is coming up on Saturday Evening February the 21st, 2009. Great meal , and great entertainment by faces you'll know! As usual I've heard the entertainment committee has a few tricks up their sleeve.....

Last but not least - remember - Wednesday Nights are re:Fresh Nights! 7:30pm Come to Sing and praise our Lord, as we continue through Acts led by Pastor Bronc - time to meet and chat afterwards.It's your time to be refreshed - Mid-Week!

Next outing planned in December is in collaboration with the RPC Family - Caroling at Roxborough Home for Women on Sunday Night - Meet at RPC December 14th. Please Check in with Bob DiCicco for particulars.

Christmas Eve Services Wednesday December 24th - 7:30pm plan on being there to celebrate the birth of our Lord - a time of fellowship after.

A discussion on "What is, and How to Manage Stress" Friday, January 9th 7pm at the Annex Building at RPC What's Stressfull to you? How can we alleviate some of that Stress? Let's discuss it!

Let's support the RPC Mission Trip 2009! How about a hoagie lunch - Hoagie coupons from WAWA support the Mission Trip - after services on Sunday, January 18th 2009, then a trip to the Philadelphia Art Museum (low or no cost) to discuss and learn about "Christianity thru Art - The Symbolism of the Christian Faith in Artistic Works through the Centuries" After that short guided tour - we can peruse the other areas of the museum on our own.

Ideas for February-

Let's support the RPC Mission Trip 2009! How about a hoagie lunch (We like hoagies! ) - Hoagie coupons from WAWA support the Mission Trip - after services on Sunday, February 8th 2009 a trip to the Valley Forge RV Show . Why the RV show? Well, it is something Amy and I enjoy, and we like to share.. See and sit in "rigs" or all shapes, styles, and sizes...from a $1000 dollars to a million! Kind of like the car show, only some of the cars have big screen TVs,. couches, kitchens and beds! Who knows, one day - you may like this lifestyle. (We do!) Cost for the RV Show is $7 (coupon ) at the door. If you want a ride there - let us know.

Another way to support the RPC Mission Trip? Enjoy our Annual Agape Feast, Saturday evening, February 21st. 2009. A wonderful dinner, and a enjoyable music revue! We've seen The Blues Brothers, The Beatles, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Sonny and Cher... Whose Next? Come and find out! The "Mission Trippers" will be selling tickets - so see them, or contact the Granato Family for information.
